『舟を編む』原作と映画を見比べた感想ーAfter Reading and Watching "The Great Passage"

原作を随分前に読んでしまっていた『舟を編む』。ついに実写映画を制覇！

原作を読んだ当時は、普段自分が適当に扱っている辞書に対しての申し訳なさを感じると同時に、主人公・馬締が辞書編集という天職を見つけたように、天職に就くことへの憧れのようなものを感じたような気がする。

映画を見終えて思ったことは、馬締のようにいつも真面目で、そして誠実でありたいということ。

映画は思った以上に原作に忠実でしたし、映像ならではの描写が巧みに挿入されていたように思う。例えば、辞書の名前『大渡海』や本作の題『舟を編む』と関連させて、水と主人公の感情を重ね合わせて表現するようなシーンには、感動さえ覚えた。

本作では、辞書編集以外にも主人公の恋愛関係の話も重要な役割を担っているわけだが、映画では恋愛話の方もスピード感をもって進めていた。やはり原作が一番だという人もいると思うが、映像の利点を活かした映画になっていたと思う。

映画から原作を読んでも、原作から映画を見てもガッカリすることのない作品だと思った。

I finally finished reading and watching "The Great Passage."

When I read the book, I felt sorry that I had treated my dictionary roughly. I also felt like getting a vocation like Majime, the main character of this story, did.Then, after I watched the movie, I thought that I would like to be honest and sincere like him.

By the way, I was surprised that the movie stayed true to the original one and illustrated the psychological description very well. For instance, I was moved by the description using water associated with the name of the dictionary which was made in this story and the name of the story.

Talking of the love story, this movie did really well, cuz the story goes on a good tempo.

I conclude that "The Great Passage" will satisfy both people who start with the novel and who start with movie!
